In 2023, I'll be consistently rolling out peaceful instrumental piano music. It is music meant to be played quietly. Use it while meditating or studying, at the spa during a massage, or even as you sleep. Yes, I'd be honored if you'd fall asleep to my music.
THE MARVELOUS MRS. MAISEL: MUSIC FROM SEASON FOUR (2022)
My friends Tom Mizer and Curtis Moore write songs for Maisel and sometimes I get to play on them. I played piano, organ and clavinet on a bunch of stuff for Season Four including "Maybe Monica," a Belafonte doppelbänger performed by Josh A. Dawson that earned Mizer & Moore their 2nd Emmy nomination.
During the pandemic, flutist Reva Youngstein started a the Musicians Cook YouTube channel for unemployed musicians stuck at home to share recipes. She asked me to provide some theme music for the series, which was recorded of course by quarantined players. The project evolved into a cookbook, with sales benefitting the musicians' union... and then a 39-track compilation album of contributions from the book's musician/cooks.
My song "Taco Night" kicks off the whole set. I wrote "Taco Night" in June 2009, during my Sunday Songssong-blogging year, and recorded it with drummer Damien Bassman that same week. That's this recording, just the duo of us playing it down live in my old studio on W 25th St.
Dave was my "school of rock" teacher at summer camp. He placed me in my, um, FIRST band when I was 10 and taught me how to be a collaborative musician. He's also an experimental music star and drone composer, but every few years he writes some songs. It was a blast to lay down some keyboards for D1stduring the pandemic. Full album below, I'm on "Far Away" and "Cradle of Life."
